Percent of Students Qualifying for Reading Intervention Based on Reading Assessment (Dibels)

The Colorado Reading to Ensure Academic Development Act (READ Act), passed by the Colorado legislature in 2012, focuses on early literacy development for all students and especially for students at risk to not read at grade level by the end of the third grade. The READ Act focuses on literacy development for kindergarteners through third-graders. Students are tested for reading skills, and those who are not reading at grade level are given individual READ plans.

The Buena Vista School District used the state approved PALS assessment to evaluate and monitor progress of reading until the end of the 2022-23 school year when it was no longer available.

Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, BV Schools began using DIBELS as its state approved reading assessment.

The following programs are used for instruction, intervention, and assessment:

Core Program:  Into Reading

Intervention Program: 95%, Lexia, Take Flight, Ascend
